This one is run by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, so the whole space doubles as a working showcase of their City Harvest program, and the kitchen serves real comfort-food plates — think shareable tenders and dips — alongside the frozen cocktails, so you can absolutely make a meal of it.

Frankie's Summer Club

355 15th St

Bright yellow tables, a big-screen watch-party energy, and a prime location near City Hall make this the spot when you want your beer garden to double as a sports bar.

Great for groups. It's tucked into the courtyard of the old University of the Arts building and runs on a free "membership" sign-up, and the food leans Sicilian and picnic-style — olives, sopressata, mozzarella — so plan on light snacking rather than a full dinner.

Walnut Garden

Tucked behind wrought iron gates on Rittenhouse's edge, this one is leafy, laid-back, and — I'll just say it — my personal favorite. If you want a quieter afternoon that still feels like the middle of the city, start here.

Their site bills it as "Rittenhouse's Urban Cocktail Garden," and yes, there's real food here too, from smashburgers to Asian-inspired street bites, plus a soft-serve station if you want dessert without leaving the garden.

Uptown Beer Garden

Sports on every screen, right by Suburban Station. This is loud, fun, and made for game day — come here when you want the energy to match the crowd on your feed.

Uptown now has a permanent, year-round home outside Two Penn Center with its own dedicated food truck kitchen, and the menu goes well beyond bar snacks with sandwiches like roast pork and crab cake alongside wings and boardwalk fries.

Independence Beer Garden

It's technically called Liberty Garden and is the National Park's first-ever beer garden, with hammocks of its own plus a menu of elevated picnic food — salads and hearty sandwiches — built to pair with its all-Pennsylvania beer and wine list.

Old City Beer Garden

Gravel floor, blue umbrellas, easy energy. This is a solid pre- or post-happy hour hang if you're already exploring Old City's cobblestone streets. Their site plays up the games — axe throwing, basketball, giant Connect 4 — as much as the drinks, and they've added a covered, climate-controlled seating area plus a food menu with vegetarian options, so weather isn't really a dealbreaker here anymore.

City Tavern Garden

New for 2026, this one blends historic charm with a modern patio setup — full of colonial-Philly character i city that's leaning hard into its Semiquincentennial spirit this year.

It's officially "The Garden at City Tavern," a partnership between Independence National Historical Park and Historic Philadelphia set in the shaded grounds behind the original 1773 tavern, complete with costumed historical interpreters and colonial lawn games, and Cescaphe catering keeps the food going with sandwiches, charcuterie boards, and wraps.

Spruce St Harbor Park — Spruce St at the Delaware River waterfront Hammocks, floating gardens, twinkle lights.
